Fun Fact: In creating Gaara's character

FUN FACT: In creating Gaara's character, Masashi Kishimoto initially made him like a seven-year-old ninja named Kumomaru (雲 丸), a man who likes to abuse drugs to improve his physical ability to get over the limit. Kumomaru also has a ninja dog named Manji.
Gaara fun fact
Kumomaru has wild hair and is wearing a ragged robe with a forehead protector that has a sun-like or moonlike symbol partially covered by clouds. While Manji is a small dog with dark marks around the eyes and tattoos on the forehead with kanji manji (卍).

The character design went through many revisions, eventually transformed into a character named Kotarō (小 太郎) which according to Masashi is appropriate, because then Fūma Kotaro is very famous. However, his editor opposes the name and instead suggests the name Gaara (我 愛 羅), which means: "Satan who loves himself". Masashi later learned that his editor was inspired by the name of a GALA Yuzawa ski resort in Nīgata Prefecture where his editor had just been on vacation.

Masashi created Gaara in comparison to the character of the series protagonist, Naruto Uzumaki. Gaara and Naruto have the same background, they are hated by his colleagues and villagers for being Jinchuriki. A situation that Masashi thinks is very similar to Naruto.

The development of Gaara as a very interesting sadistic character is intended to encourage sympathy from the reader, as it contrasts sharply with Naruto's development as a cheerful troublemaker.

In addition, Gaara's design is designed to look like Tanuki. Masashi thought that this would make him a good competitor to Naruto's Fox since some parts of Shukaku considered him a suitable opponent for Kurama.

Gaara's past became one of Masashi's favorite stories in the first part. Masashi also revised his illustrations a lot in the chapters associated with Gaara because he wanted the reader to understand more about Gaara's mental state.

Masashi had little trouble drawing Gaara's early clothes and two older sisters every week. Because of this, Masashi then gave them a simpler costume towards the end of the first part. Besides aiming to make it easier to draw, it was meant to show the changing relationship between Gaara and Naruto, following their previous bout.

Gaara's new costume is inspired by The Matrix, one of Masashi's favorite films. According to him of three Suna brothers, Gaara costume is the favorite.
